Dolphins Looking to Extend Brown

With the start of NFL training camp creeping up the Miami Dolphins are looking to extend the contract of running back Ronnie Brown. Brown is in the final year of his contract and looks poised to become the tams featured back.

Ronnie was the starter last season but split carries with Ricky Williams, no surprise considering he was coming off a torn ACL. He’s now a full year removed from the surgery and back into pre-injury shape. If there were any doubts he would be in such shape again his mini-camp performances have squashed them.

Those mini-camp performances have the Dolphins looking to lock him in long term. The Miami Herald reports that the sides have had preliminary talks and that those should intensify once training camp begins.

Pretty smart for Bill Parcells and management to consider this move now. If his performance in mini-camps carry over to training camp and regular season he’ll become a highly sought after commodity after the year. Which makes it very important for the team to lock him up now before the price rises.

I’m thinking Brown’s due for a breakout year, one that will top his performance from 2006 when he ran the ball for 1008 yards and caught 33 passes.
