Blazers Unsure About Lee

The Portland Trail Blazers have been looking for someone to sign after the surprise rejection from Hedo Turkoglu. The player that’s garnering most of their attention is New York Knicks David Lee, but the team isn’t quite sure if they want to make an offer.
The Blazers would like to make an offer, which is expected start around $9 million per season but there are problems. The NY Post even reports that if Lee wasn’t a restricted free agent that he’d already be signed. “If he was unrestricted, he would’ve been signed July 1,” Lee’s agent Mark Bartelstein said.
By signing Lee to an offer sheet means they’d have to wait ten days before making any other offer. So say the Blazers make the $9 million per offer and the Knicks take the entire allotted time the Blazers could be screwed.
Portland has their eyes on other players, including point guard Andre Miller. Miller could easily be signed by the end of that ten day period. So if the Knicks decide to match the offer to Lee then Portland could easily be out two coveted free agents. Something they definitely don’t want to happen.
One thing I find interesting thou is how long the Blazers are taking to make up their minds. The longer they debate on Lee the more likely they make it that they don’t get Miller. If they take another couple days to make their decision to sign Lee then they really give Miller even more time to negotiate with other teams.
So to me Portland’s big question should be do they want to go after an aging veteran point guard or take a chance at signing a nightly double-double in Lee.
Me? I’d take the risk and go after Lee.
