Kyle Drabek – Possible Myers Replacement?

There’s plenty of talk amongst bloggers and Philadelphia Phillies fans on who should replace injured starter Brett Myers. Most of the talk has centered around Jake Peavy, Roy Oswalt and a slew of minor league pitchers. There’s one guy who hasn’t been mentioned much in the media and that’s Kyle Drabek.

There’s a pretty good reason thou, he’s only 21 and still pitching at Single A Clearwater.

I have come across some people who think the Phillies should give him a chance as he’s arguably the top pitching prospect in the organization. But in reality he’s the most hyped, that’s no surprise thou since his father was for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Doug Drabek.

Well, the Phillies have decided to promote the youngster. It’s not to the major league level thou, it’s only Double A Reading but hey it’s a start. Drabek has been lights out in Single A ball this year, over 10 starts he’s 4-1 with a 2.48 era, striking out 74 in only 61 and 2/3 innings pitched.

His first start in Reading is Thursday night against Akron. All eyes will definitely be on this kid. If he continues pitching like he did at Single A, you can be sure the talks will heat up amongst the fans.

Could he be the replacement for Myers thou?

Personally, I don’t think so. Although, Drabek could be pitching for a late season call-up. Drabek is the most hyped pitcher in the organization since Cole Hamels. So the team will obviously wait till they think he’s absolutely ready. Last thing they’ll want to do is call him up, watch him struggle then have to demote him.

If he continues on this pace thou, he could wind up this years David Price.

well drabeck pitched tonight for reading so he did very well 7 shutout innings and gave up 3 hits so he is on his way to the majors soon.
