The surging New York Yankees are getting stronger by the day as the news came down that catcher Jorge Posada will be rejoining the team Friday. The catcher will be behind the plate and in Friday’s starting lineup against the Cleveland Indians. Posada’s been on the disabled list since May 4th when he strained his right hamstring. After today’s extended spring training game, he declared that he was ready.
“The hamstring is feeling good,” Posada told The Associated Press in Dunedin, Fla. “I’m happy with everything. The most important thing was just running, seeing some pitches and getting the timing down.”
In the game he played six innings, going 0 for 4, with 2 walks. More importantly thou he made two very strong throws on stolen base attempts, catching one. The one he didn’t catch was only safe because the second baseman dropped the ball.
For Yankee fans things are looking pretty damn good. The team was meddling around in fourth place and then got Alex Rodriguez back. Now, they’re a half game out of first and getting their starting catcher back. Melky Cabrera who suffered a scare in Tuesday nights game against the Texas Rangers will also be back with the team. He won’t be starting but should be ready to go by the end of the weekend.
In addition, Xavier Nady is playing pretty well and should be back with the big league squad pretty soon.
Here’s the projected lineup for Friday, courtesy of the LoHud Yankees Blog:
Jeter SS
Damon LF
Teixeira 1B
Rodriguez 3B
Posada C
Cano 2B
Matsui DH
Swisher RF
Gardner CF
It’s good to have the boys back together again and get the chance to see what this team is supposed to and could be.
