Holt Wants To Be Free

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis Rams Pro-Bowl wide receiver Torry Holt has asked for his release. Holt making these demands comes as no surprise when you look at the direction the Rams are going. In fact this may be one time that a team actually GIVES IN to the players request.
Holt has been one of the players on the trading block ever since Steve Spagnuolo took over as the head coach. While Spags isn’t down on the veteran the team is just looking for salary cap relief as they look to reshape the franchise. After a few years of losing the team has realized it’s time to blow it all up and start over. With that being said can you blame Holt for wanting out? He’s a ten year vet and a seven time Pro-Bowler he wants to go where he is wanted and have a chance to win.
Another major reason is what else? MONEY! Money is pretty much what EVERY NFL decision comes down to and for wide receivers there is a lot of it on the table. T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Laveranues Coles have both cashed in recently and I’m sure Holt wants to do the same. There are multiple teams who could use a stud receiver so you can’t blame him one bit for wanting to hit the market.
Luckily for Holt he may get his wish. The Rams have been unable to trade him. No matter what Philadelphia Eagles fans have been saying there is no deal even close to happening. Why? Holt is due a $1.25 million roster bonus on March 17th. The Rams are on the clock here. They have less then 2 weeks to move the guy or cut him, because there is no way they are paying that bonus.
Like I said multiple teams would love to get their hands on the receiver those include the Eagles and the New York Giants. But why would any team offer anything of value, when they’ll be able to sign him in a couple weeks and keep their draft picks. And that is the exact reason I believe Holt will actually get his wish and become a free agent. It will just take a little time.
