Ray Lewis on the move?

ray_lewisNow that the Baltimore Ravens season is over it’s time to work on keeping a solid team intact. The team has quite a few potential free agents and some big ones at that, including their three starting linebackers. Between Ray Lewis, Bart Scott and Terrell Suggs who do you keep? who do you let walk? It’s a tough decision but I’m sure any football fan would say you must do whatever it takes to keep Ray in town. Lewis will be expensive that much is a given but the price may be rising now that another team is already throwing themselves into the mix. And that’s none other then Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.

Ray is the emotional leader of the defense and the Ravens team as a whole, in and out of the clubhouse. When it comes to the Cowboys this season, what did they miss the most? A leader. The Cowboys have all the talent in the world but lack the leader that can bring it all together to function as a unit. And not to mention behave themselves off the field. Ironic one could think of Lewis as a leader off the field too, but hey that’s a different story for a different day. Jerry Jones has seen Lewis do his thing in Baltimore for over a decade and knows he is the one who could help a struggling franchise.

Do I really think Lewis could help the Cowboys off the field? Not sure. Will he be able to get TO to stop crying in press conferences? I doubt it, don’t think anyone will ever be able to do that. If Pacman returns, will he be able to keep him out of the strip clubs? I doubt it, don’t think anyone will ever be able to do that.

For the Ravens, bringing Lewis back is a MUST. They can’t let Ray walk. Ravens Insider says that Dallas is considering a three year offer in the $27 to 30 million range, with at least $25 million guaranteed. That’s a hefty price for a 34-year old guy who’s been laying vicious hits for 13 seasons. But you know what? He’s one guy that’s totally worth it. The Ravens are going to way the pros and cons. Mainly does resigning Lewis at that rate mean you lose Suggs and Scott? Or do you resign both of them and let Lewis walk?

They’re going to do what’s best for the team but I know every Ravens fan would flip out if Lewis is allowed to leave, no matter what price it costs. He’s not just the heart and soul of that team, he’s the heart and soul of that city. The fans don’t live and die with the Ravens, they live and die off the emotion Ray Lewis provides. Just look at the two seasons he was injured, the atmosphere around the team and in the stands was not the same. My thinking as a fan of NFL is this. Ravens please do what you can to resign the guy. I definitely don’t want to see Lewis wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey twice a season.
