Celtics waive Darius MilesThe Boston Celtics waived guard/forward Darius Miles today. Miles signed a contract with the Celtics this off-season and was an extreme long shot to make the roster. His contract was not guaranteed since he hasn’t played organized basketball since 2005-2006 when he underwent microfracture surgery on his knee. Even with the release there is still some hope that Miles could once again be providing highlight reel material.

“Darius was a model citizen during his time here in Boston,” said GM Danny Ainge. ”He showed that he still has a lot of basketball left in him” During 6 games with the Celtics, Miles only averaged 1.8 points and 1.3 rebounds a game with around 10 minutes a game. Miles showed at times that he still had the ability to be productive, including a couple blocks in one game, and a 6 point night during one game. The problem for Miles is that he signed with the Boston Celtics, a team that is fully loaded.

I would think one of the weaker teams in the NBA, the ones with minimal talent, have to be considering taking a stab at the kid and seeing if he can still get the job done. After all he is only 27 still. Grant Hill underwent microfracture surgery at an older age and he’s wound up being a pretty productive player again. So why can’t Miles?

While this move was expected since the moment Miles signed his contract, it’s still disappointing move to me. See Miles was always one of my favorite NBA players to watch and if it wasn’t for the knee surgery he would still be providing numerous highlight drunks. So on that note I leave you with a Darius Miles highlight reel (i’d hit mute on the cpu volume but thats just me). The NBA misses this kind of excitement in its games.
