What a WILD Week 6 in the NFL. With all of the early games coming down to last second endings my picks went from horrendous to spectacular and then back to pretty pedestrian. It was a pretty wild ride. With about 2 minutes to go in all the early games my record was 2-6, at about 30 seconds to go in the last few i was up to 7-1, but then after EVEN MORE craziness my record was 5-3. I did very well in the afternoon and Sunday night games, so my record for Week 6 wound up a pretty good 9-5. That was good enough to put me in a tie for 2nd place over in Cuzoogle’s Pigskin picks contest. I’m still 5th overall there, but now only 3 games behind the leader Chocolate Dog Blog. So after this where does my season tally stand? Well its a nice cool 55-33, so I’m pretty happy.
UPSET – My upset pick this week was the Jacksonville Jaguars over the Denver Broncos. In my eyes this was a pretty easy pick. Yes, Denver came in to the game with a 4-1 record and the Jags were a dismal 2-3. And, yes the Broncos were playing at home where they are always tough. BUT, my thinking here was that the Jaguars weren’t as bad as a team as their record indicated. Their record was actually pretty deceiving as they started the season 0-2, with losses to the undefeated Tennessee Titans and the one loss Buffalo Bills, and those all came after losing 4 of their 6 offensive lineman. After that they’ve beaten the Colts, and lost a nail-biter to a very good Pittsburgh Steelers. So yea to me the writing was all there, that the Jaguars were going to make a stand and put themselves back into the playoff picture. I called for a 31-24 final, it was a little lower scoring with the Jags winning 24-17. My upset picks are now a pretty good 4-2 on the season.
Lock – My lock of the week was the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings did pull out a win, by beating the Detroit Lions 12-10 but it was no where near a lock. This is actually the second week in a row that my lock has won their game in the final minute. Remember last week, my lock was the Colts who edged out the Houston Texans with a huge late game comeback. My locks have been a struggle this year as the current record stands at 3-3. I think next week I won’t be picking a game that everyone feels is a gimme, and go with something that actually IS a strong play.
Here’s to hoping that Week 7 of the NFL is a lot more predictable. Actually let’s not hope. This season has been pretty damn exciting so far with all this unpredictability. I don’t think any true NFL fan will complain about trying to watch so many games at once come down to the last second. Unlike previous years, it’s going to be quite a few more weeks before the playoff picture is clear. Enjoy it boys and girls!
