After 7 months I think its time My Sports Rumors finally holds a contest. I’ll be the first to admit I’m completely horrible with graphics. That’s why this site has no real logo and even why we had a horrible 125×125 ad for months upon months. That’s all changed thou thanks to my buddy Matt over at Michigan Rafter. He’s helped create 4 logos, all 125×125 size, that I could use for advertising at other locations. The contest will involve you the readers choosing which one is the best! So pretty much you submit your vote to which one you like the best and then you’re eligible to win a CASH PRIZE! Yes, a CASH PRIZE!
Here are the prizes:
First place – $50 (via paypal)
Second place – $25 (via paypal)
Third place – 2,000 Entrecard Credits ($12 cash value), payable in two installments due to EC’s new rules.
Alright so let’s get under way, I’ll show you the graphics and my thoughts on each one. Afterward, I’ll tell you how to earn even more chances to win!
Logo 1 – Nice picture of the Chicago White Sox celebrating their World Series win a few years back. As of now they’ve even got a chance to get back there. When you think about it teams don’t win without the off-season rumors. There is always a significant off-season or trade deadline move that helps propel a team to greatness. And how do those rumors begin? As rumors of course.
Logo 2 – This picture completely tells how some players hate talking to the media. Why? Because rumors get started and then the players have to discuss it. Not fun especially when you’re a possible trade candidate or on a losing team. What I like about it? It shows that not all rumors are pleasant. The other reason, I like the color scheme as the My Sports Rumors really stands out.
Logo 3 – This picture explains pretty much what we cover, sports. We focus on baseball and football but do occasionally dabble in the other sports. What I really like about this logo is the simplicity. It’s just what is used in each of the sports, and definitely screams out to the reader this is a sports site. There is no wondering if you will find what you want if you click on it.
Logo 4 – This one shows in a way how far rumors can go. Brett Favre lit the blog and major news outlets on fire all summer long with his back and forth on retirement. You couldn’t look anywhere with out seeing a rumor about the great one. So this logo to me says here is a place for rumors.
So there you go those are all the logos.
Now time for the contest directions. Pay attention cause it only benefits you to follow the rules as there are bonus entries for doing various things.
THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRY IS OCTOBER 20TH.
Step #1 – Post a comment here with which logo you like the best. That will earn you 5 entries.
Step #2 – Create a post about this contest on your blog (Include the link to your post in that comment)- A bonus of 5 entries.

Ok so its not to difficult of a contest and there is a nice cash prize. For bloggers that could be some easy advertising money for you. For non-bloggers it could help fill the gas tank

I like logo 3 the best. Since new rumors develop all the time, that one will always be valid. The others will eventually be forgotten. I also followed you on Twitter as smalltownmommy.
Paul, I personally think number 3 is the way to go. It would definitely tell me that your page is about sports.
Okay number 3 no doubt about it…It symbolizes all the sports and will pull in like you said ppl – it screams sports!
#1 Baseball winners come and go and so do the players this would be outdated fast!!
#2 Who wants to look at what looks like a brooding football player!
#3 Well Brett Favre tho good in his day for sure-to me says trader ie: the packers fans…also would have to retire it again and again and again..
Three all the way is fresh, new. young contemporary and like you said screams sports!
Love it keep it coming!!!
Bitty
Number 3 is the way to go for a number of reasons. First, It’s a nice looking logo that integrates several different sports which in itself says, “This website is not just about football.” Secondly, there are far too many risks involved with using images that could be copyrighted. Unless you contacted the rights holders then you could have some problems down the road with the other three logos.(probably not but better safe than sorry) And lastly because its the one I like.
Don’t worry about entering me into the contest I just wanted to offer my two cents.
Number 3 gets my vote as well!
I hate to be a bandwagon jumper, but I like #3 the best as well.
Timeless
I chose the girl holding the round 4 sign if that’s possible. Otherwise I chose you Pinkachew. Lol No I mean for real I chose Brett Farv. The logo with the all 4 sports is almost best suited for your site, but speaking for myself. I go to sports sites more if they have sports figures or girls shown.
I like #2, think that should be your winner!
#2
I like number 2 dude.
It’s the microphones in the pic that makes it
I vote for 3. I think it captures the idea behind the site best.
Jeff
Number 3 works the best with a sports site.
I like No. 2. The guy’s face on there is classic and I think sums up what sports rumors are all about. No. 3 kind of lumps you in with all the other generic sports blogs out there.
I already subscribe via RSS and read your stuff daily.
I like the very top picture “round 4″ if 90% of you readers are male then why not make the logo for them…. i like your stuff because it make me smile, change the logo to a more provocative look
)))))))))))))))))))

Hey just thought I would stop by and say hello from one sports fan and writer to another. I would go with logo #3 as it is more Generic.

You can’t really say that a picture with a graphic is a logo.
I like number 3,

I really vote for the third logo. It’s simple, yet it screams out your hobby in writing about sports. Readers with the same interests would know about it immediately. Logos 1, 2, and 4, well, I had complications on thinking what it was about. “I didn’t really get it at first.” That’s what I thought. Well, at least personally.
Oh, and yeah. Interesting contest. I already added you up in my reader. I followed you on twitter (KowaiOujo). I also blogged about it: http://so.tsinita.net/2008/09/choose-a-logo-contest/
Good luck in picking your logo.
Number 3 gets my vote. It’s the most stylish and suitable for this blog.
Have also subscribed. Count me in. Thanks!
Hi. I choose #2. It’s explanation was the first one I read.

I agree that #3 is the best option. Multiple sports, enduring symbols, will not require updating and changing.
Just commenting #3 nice one…
Gotta be #2. Classic pic–original. I love it.
I’d have to root for logo 2. Compared to the other logos, I think it stands out a little better.

I vote for No.3, cause it speaks out!

I liked LOGO 3, because it clearly says the site is about Sports, and it depicts a few sports too…
I have blogged about it here: http://automobile-guide.blogspot.com/2008/09/contest-vote-for-best-logo-and-win-cash.html
Eagerly awaiting the results of this contest….
I like #3
How do I subscribe via email? (How do you know that I really subscribe if I just subscribe on google reader?)
voting for #3 and subscribed via Google Reader
LOL…well technically, they’re not logos as some of your commenters have suggested. They’re a 125×125 square designed for EntreCard. I wouldn’t necessarily use these to brand your site. They were designed to increase the chance other EntreCard users would click on the image and bring more traffic to this site–a very narrow purpose indeed.
That being said, if you want to use the square for the purpose intended, #2 is very strong.
If you want to use the square to promote your blog all over the web, either #2 or #3 would be great choices. But don’t discount #1 or #4.
#1 does have some underlying sexual innuendo implied by the title of the blog: “My Sports Rumors” that some readers may catch on to.
#4 completely encapsulates buzz and rumor mill.
The thing about logos and branding is that they are always updated over time as time changes. AT&T doesn’t update their logo very often, neither does Coca-Cola; but both companies, and every company that’s out there updates a logo and you should plan to update or change your logo as well over time. With an internet-based logo or graphic or image, you probably need to update at least every 18 months to stay current and fresh. the internet changes all the time, and new technology evolves even faster. Logos and branding should change to keep pace with the times, so you should plan a branding/logo campaign in a certain vein, and the logos you choose to represent your site should be consistent and within the same “family”, but should very over time.
Now this is different from an advertising campaign. For an advertising campaign, you will need different logos or images or graphics for advertising in different markets. If you’re advertising on Sports Illustrated, maybe you want graphic 3. If you’re advertising on a baseball site, maybe you want Graphic 1. If you’re advertising on a football site, maybe you want graphic 2, and so on and so on. You want variations on a theme.
So the thing about this contest that is cool is that you’re getting feedback from your readers as to what they like, but the thought process that you need to use is what purpose is the graphic for? And what are you going to do with it?
For advertising on EntreCard, and for the purpose of this contest, I pick Logo 2. For advertising elsewhere with a 125×125 square, you might want something more appropriate for the readers of the site you want to advertise on.
Cheers and good luck!

I think the most appropriate one is LOGO 2.
I like #2 the best, it grabs my attention more than than the others. I can understand why most people so far have picked #3 as it is generic, but it could belong to any sports blog. #2 says more about the rumour part.
Adding you to my twitter now too (Caromie)
#3 works but #2 is the best because of the reaction of Adewale Ogunleye and the microphones being in the picture.
That definitely is what makes it work the best.
As for the contest, I’m pretty sure that I am already friends with you on the various social media sites.
