Who can remember the last time there were so many injuries during NFL Opening Weekend? True, we’ve had stars go down Week 1, and of course we have your usual minor players injured. But who can honestly remember so MANY key players going down during the first week of the season. What I’m going to do today is just take a quick run through some of the injuries that we’re experienced, estimated out time, and how it effects that team.
QB Tom Brady – This was the biggest injury of the weekend by far. The face of the league on the most dominant team is now done for the season with a torn ACL, and possibly even a torn MCL. I’ll be having a post later tonight or tomorrow morning discussing this injury more. It’s just to major to talk about in a quick post.
RB LaDainian Tomlinson – Did you realize he got injured? If you own him in fantasy football you definitely did. Don’t worry thou his injury is very minor, all he has is a case of turf toe. He doesn’t expect to miss any time but that is an injury that can nag a player for a while.
QB Vince Young – There is a lot of speculation on how severe his injury actually is. Some say his MCL is just sprained, while numerous reports say its torn. Regardless he’s only expected to miss about 2 to 4 weeks. A sprain would be much better thou for player and team. Veteran Kerry Collins will get the playing time while Young recovers. An interesting thing has been noted in the Nashville Tennessean, apparently the QB had tightness in his hamstring and didn’t want to reenter the game. Four players later, he suffered this injury. Is it true? Who knows, but it’s an interesting to story that bears looking into.
RB Marion Barber III – Barber suffered nothing but bruised ribs. X-rays came back negative which is a good thing as the Cowboys can’t afford to lose their horse. Will he be ready to play next Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles? The Dallas expects him to do so, even if it is only at 90%. My guess is he’ll be using a heavy does of pain killers that night.
RB Maurice Morris and WR Nate Buerlson – Seattle Seahawks – This is a team thats already been decimated by injuries at the wide receiver position. Well, things just keep getting worse. Buerlson has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of this season. On top of that, their starting running back Morris suffered a knee injury as well, luckily for all parties it is just a sprain. Even so Coach Mike Holmgren expects him to miss “a couple weeks”. This will make Julius Jones the full time starter. With games upcoming against San Francisco and St. Louis the team shouldn’t hurt to bad, but it’s going to be a longgggg season in Seattle.
Guards Vince Manuwai and Maurice Williams – Jacksonville Jaguars – These are absolutely devastating injuries for a team that many thought could finally overtake the Indianapolis Colts. Manuwai suffered a torn ACL (pretty common injury Sunday) and has already been placed on injured reserve. Williams experienced a torn biceps muscles, he’s expected to miss up to two months. With that being the time frame the team is debating on placing him on IR as well. This is very bad news for Fred Taylor and David Garrard, especially when you consider the Jags have now lost 4 of their 6 best lineman for most of the season. Center Brad Meester has been down with his own biceps injury and back up tackle Richard Collier is done for the year after being shot last week. Not good, not good at all.
K Mike Nugent – New York Jets – It’s believed Nugent suffered a pulled thigh muscle against the Dolphins. If that’s the case and it’s a pull he could be down for a few weeks. In the meantime, the team is going to go with Jay Feely. Feely was briefly with the Kansas City Chiefs, little less then 2 weeks ago, but lost a kickoff for the teams job. The plus out of this is Feely knows Giants Stadium from his days with Big Blue.
QB Brodie Croyle – Kansas City Chiefs – Croyle suffered a separated shoulder after a missed block by running back Jamaal Charles. This is going to sideline Croyle for a few weeks, possibly longer. The team is considering him week-to-week and will go with Damon Huard as their starter. Sorry Tyler Thigpen fans. Their is some concern to the severity of the injury thou. He’s not done for the year,” Edwards promised. “They’re still looking at it and they’re going to send it off to (medical experts).”
Here are some more injuries suffered this weekend:
Tennessee – DL Albert Haynesworth - concussion. Still got 2 sacks after it, should play in Week 2.
St. Louis – WR Drew Bennett – fractured left foot. Out 4 to 6 weeks.
Carolina – TE Dante Rosario – sprained foot. Caught 7 passes 96 yards 1 touchdown, currently questionable for Week 2.
Cleveland – WR Dante Stallworth – Believed to be a groin strain after the game, but the injury is actually his quad. If it is the quad he’ll be back on the field a lot faster, he’s questionable for Week 2.
So there you go there’s the notable injuries for Sunday, I missed a few but who wants to read a novel about injuries?

Wow…I didn’t realize that about Tomlinson…
Hopefully that turf toe doesn’t effect him too much…
He is on my fantasy team..

This is a great list you put together. One thing that I have to add about Vince is the fact that I have to agree that he is probably not as hurt as he lets on to be. He refused to go in the game in the 4th and then when he did go back in, he got hurt 4 plays latter.
On another note, I would like to invite you to submit and link to an article a week to our blog carnival. The carnival is published weekly and only pertains to sports. It is a great way to get free publicity for your shot. I hope you will consider it and look forward to reading more from you.
