Taylor to Packers deal looking unlikely

There were rumors this week that the Green Bay Packers were considering a trade for the Miami Dolphins Jason Taylor. Now their are conflicting reports about what is actually going on, the only thing consistent is that a deal is pretty much in dream land. ESPN’s John Clayton feels there is no chance of one happening, while the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel does list a few ways that this deal can happen.
In his latest blog, John Clayton tells us not to loose any sleep. His thinking is based on the fact that Packers General Manager Ted Thompson doesn’t like to deal future draft picks, especially one as high as a second rounder. The other thought is that the Packers are weaker at the defensive tackle position, not at defensive end. Interesting thought seeing how some have doubted whether Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila is going to be ready for training camp. Clayton is taking KGB’s word thou when he says he’ll be ready for camp.
Now Greg Bedard, of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, gives his take on the talks. The highlight of his article is pretty much that Ted Thompson won’t deal such a high draft pick, but would consider a move if the demands are lessened. He believes real talks between the two teams won’t even start till right around training camp, basically the time when the Dolphins would start to lessen those demands.
The consensus thou is that talks aren’t even in a serious stage yet, and aren’t likely to be there for a while, if ever. I’ve said before that this could be a good deal for both sides and that thinking hasn’t changed. I also stand by my original thoughts of nothing will happen between the sides. Thompson is just to stubborn with his draft picks. Also don’t forget who he’d have to negotiate with, the guy who is arguably the most stubborn person in football, Bill Parcells. So Packers fans keep on dreaming a deal doesn’t look likely, but hey you never know.
