Ahmad BradshawFresh off a Super Bowl Championship and a visit to the White House, how does one truly celebrate??? You take an extended visit to your local jail house to visit the local inmates, oh wait did I say visit, I meant live with. Thats right Ahmad Bradshaw the little known running back that helped spur the New York Giants offense down the stretch is currently living in a Virginia jail. Bradshaw’s sentence began June 15th and will last for 30 days. So where the hell did this come from???

“Ahmad Bradshaw is currently serving a 30-day jail sentence in Abingdon Regional Jail in Virginia on a probation violation charged out of the Tazewell County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court,” the statement reads. “The underlying charge in this matter stems from an offense that occurred while Mr. Bradshaw was a juvenile. Mr. Bradshaw has not been charged with any offense since being drafted by the New York Giants and is eager to put this matter behind him and be in training for the next season.”

Sounds kind of fishy saying a prior incident is sending someone to jail now. A little look into history, Ahmad received two years probation for an incident at Marshall University back in 2006. At that time, he was convicted of petty larceny for stealing a video game. Regardless, that means he must of done something since then that caused him to serve jail time. According to Stephen Clear, a deputy superintendent for the jail Bradshaw is currently at said the running back voluntarily showed up on June 15th.

Seeing how his lawyer said nothing has happened with the law since being drafted, I will give you my take on what happened. Prior to the NFL Draft, Bradshaw probably did something minor, maybe forgetting to call or visit his probation offer, most likely something stupid. With the 30-day jail sentence he’d have to serve the courts probably quietly postponed after seeing that he was drafted. Fair? Maybe, maybe not depending how you look at things. I believe the judge probably thought this kid has a great chance to turn his life around and create a good living for himself, so lets give him a chance. He was probably ordered to still serve his time but during the off-season. (Remember Kiefer Sutherland of 24 was allowed to serve his DUI jail time during a shooting break of the show, so its not unprecedented). If I’m correct and that truly is the case, kudos to that judge for trying to use the judicial system in a positive way, to rehabilitate.

What is concerning thou is how secretive everything is regarding this. But again it looks like everything is being taken care of the right way. Bradshaw is fulfilling whatever deal was reached and all sides keeping tight lipped from the media. (i.e. keeping his private life somewhat private) Unfortunately for Bradshaw we live in a society where if you are in the public spotlight, we have to know what’s going on, why you’re in jail, etc. And once again, unfortunately till the full details are released people are going to keep speculating on what this kid did.

To the good news for us Giants fans. Bradshaw reported on June 15th that was two days after the teams off-season program concluded. So he was with the team, in shape and practicing. He gets released after 30 days, so that is July 15th. Just before training camp is to begin. With what we know about today’s prison facilities I’m sure he’ll be lifting weights, probably not to the same extent as he would if he was working out in East Rutherford. So expect him to be in reasonably good shape and ready to go. Doubt he has his playbook with him thou as the team wouldn’t want any real low life thug stealing it and selling a copy to those Philthy Eagles, Cowgirls or Deadskins.
