McCown leading the race in Miami

After a month of various camps it looks like the Miami Dolphins have a front runner for the quarterback position. Some teammates have said that Josh McCown has been the sharpest out of the three. We’ve talked about the Dolphins situation before, earlier in camps the team was rotating them between units but I’d guess McCown will be starting training camp with the first team. Mind you, this battle is far from over as he doesn’t have a huge lead over the other options.
I keep mentioning the other options, well if you don’t already know the Dolphins QB battle is between McCown, John Beck and rookie Chad Henne. Teammates also raved about the arm strength of the young Henne, but the consensus is that he needs quite a bit of more seasoning (i.e. he needs some practice at this level). To me it sounds like Henne has done well enough to make this a three man battle for the starting job. Coach Tony Sparano thinks this could come down to the wire, as he doesn’t expect any of them to separate from the back by the third preseason game like he wants, “I’m not sure that happens.”
I’ve said in that past article that McCown and Beck aren’t long term options for Miami and I still feel thats the case. If Henne starts to steal snaps away from these two in training camp then you could see Henne possibly starting by mid-season. For the Dolphins, if they want to put up a respectable win total then they would need Henne in the lineup by then.
