Could Eagles be McNabb-less already?

Donovan McNabbWe all know for the Philadelphia Eagles to have a legitimate chance at a Super Bowl, rests in the arm of #5 Donovan McNabb. The team needs him to be healthy and performing at a high level, not the guy who was injured for a good portion of the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Well, according to a teammate, McNabb may already be suffering from an ailing shoulder. Coach Andy Reid denies all, McNabb is silent, so whats going on?

“He’s looking good,” wide receiver Kevin Curtis said after practice Wednesday. “But I think he has a little bit of a sore shoulder.”

What’s this a teammate claiming something is wrong with McNabb? Last time that happened, Terrell Owens was claiming McNabb was throwing up in the huddle. But back to topic, there were indications on the OTA workouts that McNabb does have something bothering him. First, McNabb was very inaccurate during practice. For how much I make fun of the guy of having horrible accuracy, McNabb has worked his but off and become one of the more accurate quarterbacks in this league. Remember thou, this is an OTA so being solely inaccurate is not a complete alarm for concern.

There were also reports that a lot of McNabb’s passes had minimal “zip”. Supposedly, McNabb has been holding and rubbing his arm/shoulder area quite a bit the last couple days. It could be just general discomfort thou, as his age is getting up there and the weather in the Philadelphia area has been pretty humid and rainy the past few days. Like I said could be, a reason it could not? He was shut down early in the May mini-camp and wasn’t allowed to throw on the last day.

Not surprising, McNabb and Reid have stayed pretty quiet on this situation. Reid has completely denied that any thing is wrong with his stud. Reid claims that Donovan was shut down at the May mini-camp because he reached his “pitch count”. What is this baseball??? I’ve never heard of a QB being put on something similar to a pitch count at any camp or workout. But then again a pitch count, may just be an attempt to keep McNabb’s arm fresh for the season.

Right now, I’d have to say this situation just bears watching. Do I think McNabb is injured? I’m not sure, it is just practice and maybe this is a new route for the Eagles in keeping Donovan fresh. Then again it’s not like Kevin Curtis to come right out and claim something is wrong with his QB. It’s somewhat alarming McNabb is still quiet. And Reid, well he’s always so secretive who knows whats really going on? So I’d say again just keep an eye on this.

Only guarantee from all of this is that Reid most likely pulled Curtis aside for a big lecture on keeping his mouth shut.

Here’s a link to the Delco Times, whom talks about this and a couple other Eagles injuries at practice.
