For the moment, the Cleveland Browns won’t be acquiring Ashton Youboty from the Buffalo Bills. It’s no secret that the Browns need corner back depth, but as you can tell by this they are setting the bar low. Looking more for positional depth (Youboty), then outstanding starter (Lito Sheppard). So, right now, the Bills aren’t considering trading Youboty, but that could change as the team has quite a bit of depth in the secondary.
You can’t really blame the Bills for not trading Youboty, even thou he’s never really performed for them. He’s still got a chance to be something special, but the team did look towards the future by drafting corners in the first, fourth and seventh rounds. So basically, what you can expect is that this years training camp will be his final chance with this team. The former 3rd round pick of 2006, saw minimal playing time his rookie year due to missing most of camp with his mothers death. In 2007, he did see action in 11 games, but missed quite a bit of time with a high ankle sprain.
The Browns have a few reasons for being interested in Youboty. One is there obvious need for a corner back. The second he’s a local product, attending college at Ohio State. Third, the coaching staff has some experience with him, the offensive coordinator Mel Tucker was a coach at Ohio State when Youboty was in school. In a trade, the Browns would most likely have to only give up a mid-to-late round draft pick. Ideally, Youboty under performs in camp and the Bills outright release him because of their depth. If that happens, the Browns would surely pick him up right away.
