LaTroy HawkinsNew York Yankees pitcher LaTroy Hawkins is looking at a 3-game suspension for Tuesday nights incident. The NY Daily News reports that Major League Baseball, will be fining Hawkins $2000 in addition to the suspension. This is the second time this year that MLB will be suspending a Yankees pitcher for not hitting a player. Granted, even as a Yankees fan, I do agree with Hawkins suspension.

After the game, Hawkins used the time old excuse that his intention was not to hit Luke Scott, and that the ball just got away from him. “If anybody knows me, and a lot of guys around this league know me, I’m not that type of person,” Hawkins said. “He thought what he wanted to think. The way it looked, he had a reason to think like that. But it wasn’t intentional.” It’s a little tougher to agree with Hawkins thou, because if Scott did not duck he would of most likely been hit right on the ear flap of his helmet. Especially, after the team’s star Derek Jeter had just been hit.

So earlier, I mentioned this is the second Yankee pitcher to be suspended for not hitting a batter. Kyle Farnsworth was suspended earlier in the season for throwing at the head of Boston Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez. The suspension was also for 3 games but eventually reduced to 1 game, as Farnsworth did not actually hit Manny.

“You saw what happened to Farnsy, so you know it’s coming,” Hawkins said Tuesday. “It’s another situation where somebody on our team got hit and nobody else got hit. I will be appealing, even though I haven’t been suspended yet.” Unfortunately for Hawkins, I don’t think his suspension will be reduced to one game. He really feels he was just pitching inside, but Farnsworth had a better argument at that, as his ball really did sail inside.
