New York Yankees ace Chien-Ming Wang is the latest player hurt for the team. Wang was initially hurt in Sundays game against the New York Mets. The injury is by no means an excuse for his performance, as the injury occurred in the seventh inning of the game. So what happened, what is the injury? Wang suffered a mild strain of his right calf while covering first base. How long should this injury cost Wang and the rotation?
At the moment, it sounds like he’ll miss no time on the mound. Wang received treatment throughout the day on Monday, but was sent for an MRI today after experiencing some bruising in the area. (side note: any one who purchases the annual team photo, you will not see Wang as this photo was taken today while he was at the hospital getting tests). The MRI showed no serious damage, just the usual garden variety strain.
Wang is still scheduled to make his start Saturday, against the Seattle Mariners. “I’ll be fine,” Wang said. “It’s better. Now it’s good. I don’t feel it.” He’ll be testing his leg out tomorrow, as Wednesday is his day to throw in the bullpen. If things go well there, he’ll definitely be on the mound at the Stadium this weekend.
