Another setback for Prior

May 16, 2008

Mark PriorOnce again Mark Prior’s career is being hampered by injury. Wait a minute hasn’t he been on the disabled list all season? Yes, yes he has. He’s been rehabbing thou and has now been diagnosed with another injury. This time the injury is being called a tear in the capsule of his right shoulder. The same shoulder he had surgery on in April 2007. So how long is he out this time?

Luckily right now they are saying its a two week setback. Prior had an examination and an MRI done Wednesday with Dr. James Andrews, the doctor who performed the original shoulder surgery. “It’s a setback, but in terms of how big of a setback, we won’t know until you know how [Prior] is feeling,” Prior’s agent John Boggs said. “We just hope it’s not a major setback.”

The San Diego Padres signed Prior to a 1-year deal worth $1 million in the off-season. The team was hoping to have Prior be big league ready by June 1st, at this point they’ll be lucky to have him in Petco Park by the All-Star break. At this point thou, I’d say even if he does reaches the major leagues he won’t be of any real value to the Padres.
