Philadelphia Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins is getting much closer to 100 percent and should be able to begin his rehab assignment soon. Rollins, currently on the disabled list, with a sprained ankle took batting AND fielding practice yesterday in Clearwater, Florida. Rollins told the Philadelphia Inquirer he was much improved.
There is no official date for a rehab assignment but he is able to come of the DL on May 5th when the team visits the Arizona Diamondbacks. My guess would probably be Wednesday or Thursday, and play through the weekend for one of the minor league affiliates.
Other Phillies injury notes. Chris Snelling, also on the DL, with knee inflammation had an MRI yesterday. He’ll remain in Philadelphia and receive care from trainer Scott Sheridan during the home stand. Scott Mathieson, ulnar nerve transposition, will visit DR James Andrews in Alabama for a third opinion on his ailing right elbow.
