Is Seau in the Pats plans?

With the New England Patriots selecting Jerod Mayo with the 10th pick in the NFL Draft, do the New England Patriots still have plans for Junior Seau? During the playoffs, it was obvious that the Pats needed to get younger at the linebacker position, which is the reason they selected Mayo, a University of Tennessee product. We all know thou, that coach Bill Belichick usually doesn’t bring in or play those young linebackers. So where does Seau stand?
Junior Seau and Patriots management have had discussions since the season ended, but at this moment there is no contract in place for him to play the 2008 season. He’s expected to visit the Foxboro area soon for a physical but yet still isn’t completely convinced he will have a role. When asked about the drafting of Mayo, he responded, “It’s all good”, then took to the sea to go surfing. Could that be, Seau going off into the sunset and leaving football behind? Nah, not a chance, if the 39-year old has any say he won’t be retiring.
Jared Mayo is pretty convinced he can step in and contribute to this team, today. “If I come in and do become a starter and I want to make a contribution there, that’s a way to go,” he said. “Any part of the game, any aspect of the game that the coaches want me to play, I feel like I can succeed in.” He’s willing to do anything to help the team succeed, even if it includes a top 10 pick, playing special teams, which I think speaks a lot about this guys character. “you can make a contribution on special teams.”
Ideally, I think the Patriots should bring Seau back for one more season, if anything for a teacher role. With the coaching staff in place and Junior Seau in the fold, Mayo would be able to learn from some of the greatest defensive minds in football today. In an interview yesterday, Mayo even said the person he is most anxious to meet is Seau. If Junior can re-join the team, and keep his ego in check, then it could be a good situation for all parties.
