Joba leaves Yankees, wont be in Tampa

The New York Yankees will be without star set-up man Joba Chamberlain for Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays and possibly a little longer. After Sunday night’s loss to the Boston Red Sox, Chamberlain found out that is father had taken fall at his home in Nebraska and had to be rushed to the hospital. Harlan Chamberlain is currently listed in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center. Team officials aren’t sure when he’ll be rejoining the team as of this moment.
Chamberlains sister attempted to reach him during Sunday night’s contest by calling a team official in the 8th inning. Joba was notified of the call after the game and then returned the phone call. Sources told the NY Daily News, that after the phone call Joba burst into tears in the clubhouse, while manager Joe Girardi stayed by his side. No surprise there, as Joba does wear his emotions on his sleeves, its what makes him such a great pitcher, in my opinion. The Daily News attempted to talk to Girardi about the situation and was told, “Personal stuff stays in there,” pointing to the clubhouse.
Anyone who has seen the million TV productions regarding Joba’s rise to stardom knows how much his father means to him, after all of the things that family has been through. Everyone knows, his 55-year old father is confined to his motorized scooter. He’s fought polio, had a burst appendix, as well as other issues. His current injury happened after taking a fall in his home.
Joba take your time, take care of your family. The Yankees and all of your fans will still be there when you make your return.
