Finally, NFL Network dumps Gumbel

It’s being said that Bryant Gumbel has left his position as play-by-play announcer at the NFL Network and that it was mutually agreed upon by both sides. Usually in the business world thats the nice of way saying you got canned. “I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me,” Gumbel said in a statement. “But we’ve agreed that we’d all be better served going in different directions.”
Gumbel was with the network for two seasons and may have been the worst at play-by-play that I have EVER EVER EVER heard in my lifetime. I can’t count how many times per game, he’d say the wrong yardage gained on the play, the wrong spot the ball was placed (not off by a yard like announcers sometimes are but mulitple), the wrong yardage left on a down. It was horrendous. I still remember the one night, Frank Gore was running off the field and he said it looks like Al Gore is leaving the field with an injury. NO LIE, he said that. Another time, he said the Dallas Cowboys were wearing their throwback jerseys from 1663. It was just pitiful. We all make mistakes, anyone who doesn’t is a liar, but come on isn’t there an extent on how much is allowable by an employer?? I guess NFL Network did think it was enough or they just got tired of fan complaints about them and how boring he is.
Cris Collinsworth job doing football games for the network is safe. They are currently looking for a play-by-play man to join the veteran announcer on Thursday and Saturday nights next season.
Below is a pretty funny picture i saw on Profootballtalk.com.
