Seattle Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard has been scratched from his Sunday start with what the team is calling hip inflammation. This start was supposed to take place against his former team the Baltimore Orioles. I’m sure there will be some speculation that the team is protecting him from the media hype of facing his old team, but Bedard was looking forward to facing his former teammates. Bedard is going to be replaced by Felix Hernandez.
Carlos Silva will go on Monday and after that the team hopes he’ll be ready for Tuesday. If Bedard is unavailable then Cha-Seung Baek should get the nod. The Mariners, their fans and shoot the fantasy owners (i’m one of them) are hoping this is not a serious injury. This sounds like something that could be day-to-day or even better maybe it is just keeping him safe for the long haul by avoiding the O’s.
