Kielty may leave Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox may lose reserve outfielder Bobby Kielty. Kielty re-signed with the team in the off-season knowing he’d only have a roster spot if Coco Crisp was trade. So the potential of losing him is no surprise to either side. The Red Sox have offered an assignment at AAA-Pawtucket and are hoping he accepts the offer. If he did accept that offer, he surely would be the first called up if an injury happens.

So why is Kielty having cold feet now? A possible major league job with another team. According to Kielty, there is an opening elsewhere, he just wouldn’t say where. “I don’t think there’s a set decision,” Kielty said. “We’ll see what happens in the next 24 hours. There’s definitely something out there. It’s just a matter of waiting and seeing what happens. I don’t want to go anywhere but we’ll see. If there’s a big-league job somewhere, I might have to take it.”

Kielty did have nothing but praise for the organization thou for being so truthful to him this off-season about where he stood with the team. Personally, I feel he’ll stay in Boston. He’s always enjoyed his time there and unless your other options are a winning team, why leave at this point in your career.
