Former Kansas City Chiefs FB/TE Kris Wilson is visiting the Philadelphia Eagles today. The team has also set-up a 3pm est media appearance for Wilson. With the Eagles pattern this off-season one can only believe this means Wilson is in town for his physical and to sign the dotted line. So by 3:30pm, he should officially be an Eagle. Wilson should be able to help this team in multiple roles.

Most would believe that Wilson is solely a tight end, and will compete for the back-up job behind LJ Smith. Personally, I think he’ll be challenging Dan Klecko for the top fullback position. The reason being is I’m not completely sold yet on Klecko being a successful fullback. He should definitely help in short yardage situations, but what about coming out of the backfield on a FB screen? What about picking up a blitz? Guys enter the NFL who have played fullback their whole college career and still struggle with those. Klecko should be fine with experience, but Wilson should gain considerable time in the backfield as well as tutoring Klecko on the nuances of the position.

Wilson is a hybrid FB/TE/H-Back type player and in the right offense a player like that can really flourish, look at Chris Cooley in Washington. In Andy Reid’s west coast styled attack, Wilson should get the chance to have as much success. In his 3 seasons in Kansas City his production has gone up every season and should continue this year with the Eagles.

All in all thou, it’s a pretty good signing by the Eagles. Gives a secondary option at fullback and a pretty good back up should LJ Smith goes down again. I hate to say it, but good move Eagles.
