Rolen fractures finger

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Scott Rolen suffered a non-displaced fracture of the bone in the tip of his right middle finger, in addition to ripping off the fingernail. The incident took place during routine infield drills during this mornings practice. Rolen took a flight Sunday night to Baltimore to get the finger checked out by a hand specialist on Monday.

How long will he be out for? “The fracture is actually not a problem because he can play with a fracture,” said general manager J.P. Ricciardi. “It’s losing the nail.” This is good news, and tells us that the injury is not as severe as the fracture Detroit Tigers’ Curtis Granderson suffered Saturday. There’s only a week left till the regular season so Opening Day may be in doubt. “Early prognosis is it’s not going to be six weeks or something like that, so I don’t even want to throw a schedule out there. I can say this: he won’t be lost for the year.”

The injury doesn’t sound to severe, so I doubt a trip to the disabled list will happen. If the specialist says he’s fine then I’m sure Rolen will be out there as soon as that finger nail starts growing back.
