49ers unconcerned about Spikes

The San Francisco 49ers seem to be unconcerned about Takeo Spikes shoulder injury. The team fully feels that Spikes will be ready for training camp and because of that have extended a contract offer to the former Philadelphia Eagles LB. During his recent visit to the Bay, the two sides discussed general ideas on a deal but nothing was set in stone, as Spikes believes he could get a better contract elsewhere.
So what other teams could be interested in the injured linebacker? Why the New England Patriots of course. The Pats love their older veteran LB’s and Spikes definitely fits the mold. Spikes didn’t have a bad season last year in Philly, playing 14 games, garnering 85 tackles, 1 sack and 4 passes deflected. While the numbers clearly aren’t high priced starter worthy anymore, he could definitely be a serviceable player with a team who has a good rotation of LB’s. For that reason, I believe he could be a good fit in New England where there multiple backs and a good system.
Granted, he most likely won’t find the money he wants anywhere around the NFL. If he can’t find a better offer you can be sure he’ll take the money over success and sign with the Niners.
