Here are some tidbits on the Detroit Tigers.
- The rotation is set. Your front free are obviously Justin Verlander, Kenny Rogers and Jeremy Bonderman. The big question was who would start the fourth game of the season Nate Robertson or Dontrelle Willis. Well, manager Jim Leyland has made his decision and Robertson will pitch 4th, with Willis bringing up the rear. Pretty good rotation when Dontrelle Willis is your 5. Even thou I still wouldn’t look to much into this, as Leyland is one of the very few managers who doesn’t skip pitchers due to off days.
- Brandon Inge is now seeing some time at short stop. This is more just to find ways to get him into the lineup it doesn’t mean he’ll be the backup. That job is firmly Ramon Santiago’s, he most likely just needed a day off as Edgar Renteria has been missing some time lately. He’s been missing time recently after experiencing back spasms this week. What the team could be looking at is this. If Renteria WERE to go down for significant time, would Inge be a better option then Santiago.
- And to wrap it up, Leyland doesn’t feel his team is ready for Opening Day yet. He’s told the team they need to take this last week a lot more seriously. “Hitting, pitching, running the bases,” Leyland said, when asked in what areas the Tigers aren’t ready yet to open the season. “I don’t think we’re ready yet,” he said. “I just don’t think overall we’re ready. They’re not to where I want them to be, but I think they will be.”
That’s all, just something for you Tigers fans to take a look at.
