Mets trade for Rivera looking unlikely

The New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been in talks about Juan Rivera, but a trade is starting to look more and more unlikely. On the surface a trade between the two ball clubs would make perfect sense.

For the Angels, they’d love to move an outfielder and if its Rivera they’d love to send him out of the American League where they don’t have to face him. For the Mets, they need right handed hitting outfielder.

So what’s holding this deal up? The Mets of course. After trading for Johan Santana the team is very depleted in the upper level pitching part of their minor league system. With the Angels being a perennial contender in the American League West they don’t have any glaring holes, so all they’d want in return would obviously be minor league players. The Angels are currently interested in Jon Niese or Bobby Parnell, so without the Mets willing to deal pitchers the prospect of a deal is very low.
