The Baltimore Orioles have had discussions with the agent for Kyle Lohse in recent days. Lohse’s agent is Scott Boras, so that would explain why he is still on the free agent market. Boras and his client were originally looking for a 5-year deal worth around $50 million. Obviously with the season close to starting his asking price has dropped significantly.
The Orioles have yet to make an offer to the 29-year old but that could happen some point soon. Lohse over his career has 63 wins and 74 losses with a 4.82 era. If the Orioles were to add Lohse it would help bolster the back end of a pretty weak rotation. The rotation is a pretty big weakness for the team now that Erik Bedard has been dealt to the Seattle Mariners and youngster Troy Patton will be going for season ending surgery soon.
Not a big rumor, but its something that could help make the Orioles a little more competitive. I would say regardless the Orioles will be EXTREMELY lucky if they sniff 500 this year.
