According to Jay Glazer at FoxSports, Green Bay Packers quaterback Brett Favre has decided to retire. Glazer says that the belief is Favre actually informed the team at some point within the past few days, but there is no idea when there will be a formal announcement. I’d take that as an indication the Packers are trying to give Favre more time, then try to talk him out of it.
Favre has been known for doing the retire song and dance the past few off-seasons. If it happens to be true this time then Favre will leave the game after arguably one of his best seasons. He threw 28 touchdowns and a whopping 4155 yards, with a 95.7 QB Rating. His season ended painfully with a loss in the NFC Championship game aka Ice Bowl II against the New York Giants, with his last career pass being an OT interception to Corey Webster.
Favre leaves the game as the NFL’s all time leader in wins, passing yards, touchdowns, and consecutive games started. Aaron Rodgers, the 24th pick in the 2005 draft, will take over as the teams starting QB next year.
I’ve always been a fan of Favre no matter how much I dislike the Packers. Favre’s enjoyment and youthful excitement always made watching him play completely enjoyable. It would of been great for him to go out on top but that is what it is. I’ll definitely miss seeing Favre play next season.
