Pinella interested in an extension

In 2006, when Lou Pinella joined the Chicago Cubs said he would complete his 3-year contract and then finally end his managerial career. Any surprise here? I didn’t think so this guy can’t stay away from the dugout he loves it to much. What this does tell you, is he is still having fun and enjoying his stay in the Windy City. “We’ll see. There’s no timetable. This will be my last job though, I can tell you that. Maybe a little consulting job somewhere, but outside of that, this will be it, managing-wise. It’s been a long career, but a lot of fun, and a lot of work”, Pinella said.

Watching Lou deal with the Chicago media, you can tell he has become very comfortable in his surroundings. Originally when he got to Chicago he was very upset and became more and more frustrated with the constant scrutiny he received. Lou’s gotten used to it and watching him now it looks like he really enjoys being constantly analyzed. A reporter asked if he felt if it was any different then managing in New York. “It was so long ago since I’ve been in New York, but Chicago is a media town,” he said. “They know their baseball there. … They like their baseball there and they’re passionate about it and the media scrutinizes it quite well. They like to talk baseball and when thing are going well they want to know why, and when things aren’t going well they want to know why also. But it’s getting like that almost anywhere. But they’re fair and that’s really all you care about.”
