NFL Mock Drafts
Griese back in Tampa

The Chicago Bears traded QB Brian Griese back to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today. In return, the Bears receive an undisclosed 2nd day 2009 draft pick. I’m assuming it would be a 6th or 7th round and be conditional pending on his performance next season. No surprise hear that Griese was shipped out. The Bears had just re-signed Rex Grossman and extended Kyle Orton so there was no need for Griese on the team.
The surprise is that the Bears actually got something for him. The Bucs are stupid, insanely stupid for giving up anything to get this guy. There were rumors all morning about the Bears ready to release Griese by the weekend if they couldn’t find a taker via trade. So why would you trade for him? No one would give up anything for this guy, and to think a 6th or 7th round pick doesn’t mean much just take a look at last year’s draft. The New York Giants draft Ahmad Bradshaw in the 7th round and he was critical in their success in the playoffs. So you can get talent that late in the draft.
Griese does know the offense so thats a plus, he’ll compete for the back-up job with Luke McCown, Bruce Gradkowski, and possibly Chris Simms. Maybe even having to compete just to make the team.
