Faneca signs with the Jets.

The year of grossly over-paying free agents has continued. The New York Jets today signed offensive guard Alan Faneca away from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Faneca will receive $40 million over 5 years, with $21 million of it guaranteed. The Jets were originally seeking only four years, but added a fifth to make sure there no snags in getting this done. My guess Faneca is gone after three, as he is already 32 years old.
Outside of being very over paid, this is a pretty good and much needed signing for the Jets. The team really struggled rushing in between the tackles last season. New York ranked 26th in the league last season in total yards and 19th in rushing yards per game, so having Faneca will be a big improvement there. Outside of Faneca its a fairly young line so he should provide some veteran leadership as well. “Alan can’t wait to work with those guys,” his agent Rick Smith said. “He likes to take young guys under his wing and help them develop.”
