Delgado sent back to NYC for tests

The New York Mets sent first baseman Carlos Delgado back to New York for an MRI on his right hip. GM Omar Minaya says that Delgado does have discomfort in his hip but that it is nothing serious, and the team is just taking precaution since it is early in spring training. “We don’t expect it to be an extended situation,” Minaya said. “It’s early in spring training and we wanted to get a look at it. ” There is no word yet on how long Delgado will be out of action.

If I was a Mets fan I’d be pretty nervous about all of this. Last year, Delgado missed 17 games due to a strained right hip flexor. He’s 35 years old now, and starting to become very injury prone. If you play fantasy, I wouldn’t bother taking Delgado unless its a super late round pick. And if I’m a Mets fan I’d start praying that this is no thing serious cause this could linger all year long.
