Wide receiver Bernard Berrian signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings today. The deal is for 6-years and calls for Bernard to make $42 million. The contract has $13 million guaranteed, and he’ll get $23 million in the first 3 years of the deal. Berrian was arguably the #2 ranked wide receiver in this years free agent class. He should give the Vikings a big-time downfield threat, the problem is his QB is still Tarvaris Jackson. The team now has two speed burners in Berrian and Sidney Rice, while Bobby Wade wou,d be handling the underneath routes.
The Bears are sorely going to miss Berrian. Even with no true QB on their team his speed made people pay attention to the passing game just a little bit. The Bears really wanted him back but the offer the Vikings gave was just way to much for Chicago to match.
This will play a big role in the Randy Moss negotiations as well. He was already in line for a HUGGGEEEE contract, but after Minnesota over-paying this much for Berrian he’s going to get even more.
