Raiders pursuing Gibril Wilson

The Gibril Wilson race is heating up now, as the Oakland Raiders are throwing themselves into the mix. Newsday is reporting that the Raiders are prepared to give Wilson a $6 to $6.5 million per year contract. This is pretty big as it has been widely believed that Wilson was only seeking about $5 million per.
For the Raiders this would be a very good signing, even thou a tad overpaid. Teaming him up with strong safety Michael Huff would create a VERY VERY good tandem. Much like what could be in Philadelphia with Brian Dawkins and Wilson if the Philadelphia Eagles step up to the plate. Wilson would continue to play free safety in Oakland which is the position he played in the last season with the New York Giants. Wilson has had a pretty good career so far, but has excelled the most while playing the free safety slot where he can roam around ball hawk, and just lay the vicious hit.
The other team known to be considering him is the Eagles, while the Giants only plan on bringing him back at the right terms. If Wilson does indeed sign with the Eagles, or the Eagles are just pulling themselves out then I might start to really believe the Asante Samuel to Philadelphia rumor. Samuel is scheduled to be in Philadelphia and many don’t believe he’ll leave without a contract in hand.
