The New York Jets and Carolina Panthers reached a deal early Friday morning for defensive tackle Kris Jenkins. In the deal, the Jets receive Jenkins while the Panthers get 3rd and 5th round picks in this years NFL Draft. A relatively minor deal, I would think the Jets would look to rework Jenkins contract and lock him up for a few more seasons after giving up two picks. If they don’t try to restructure that would just be plain stupid.

Now to this deal, I think its stupid I really do. I know plenty are going to disagree with me but thats fine I think this a stupid deal. The Jets are in need of many things and instead of trying to acquire draft picks, they’re dealing them away and spending money left and right. Haven’t they learned that’s not going to build a winner in the NFL? What was the last team that bought their way into a title game? Yea good answer none recently and don’t say the Patriots. They’ve been there a while and with cheaper free agent picks ups (for the most part).

But lets look at this Jenkins, he’s good but is he really worth two picks? Yea he is a Pro-Browler but we all know the NFL’s selection of players for that is a joke. He’s already 28 years (29 by opening weekend) and has had injury problems. He’s not a pass rusher any more, he’s had only 6.5 sacks over his past 4 seasons in 37 games. In Mangini’s 3-4 scheme he might play better, but remember he’s played in a 4-3 his entire career and barely played like a nose tackle then. We know he’ll be a run stopper but who knows if his fat self will even show up to camp at his playing weight. He’s been known to show up overweight.

Please post your thoughts in the forums cause i would LOVE to see arguments disagreeing with me. Maybe I’m missing something about this guy, but i don’t see how he’s worth so much.
