The New York Mets are still toying around with the idea of Kyle Lohse, but upper management is quite divided on if they should go that route or not. According to Ken Rosenthal’s latest article there are pretty much two different takes on Lohse.

  1. Some believe that Lohse could be a valuable commodity as insurance for the oft injured, oft ineffective Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez.
  2. Others in the organization feel he’d be a waste after signing Johan Santana. With Santana they have their five lined up.
  3. And then others also feel he has no value as a 6th starter, as the team already has Mike Pelfrey penciled into that role

There are also a couple teams still interested in Lohse. Those would be the Baltimore Orioles and the St Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals have been pursuing him but some sources have told Rosenthal that the team is not interested. Now the Orioles seem to be very interested but only at a reasonable rate.

I can’t see him signing before the middle of spring training at the earliest. He’s not moving from his contract demands and you know what no team is rightfully willing to pay it.
