The Dallas Cowboys placed the highest possible tender on Marion Barber today. The offer is a 1-year $2.562 million deal, not quite what Barber is looking for and not quite the deal the Cowboys want either. Cowboys obviously want to lock up Barber long term, and Barber well he definitely wants a huge signing bonus with a boat load of guaranteed money. What this does do is give the Cowboys a safety net in case he signs anywhere. The Cowboys first get a chance to match any contract offer, and if they don’t then they’ll receive a first and third round pick for him.
I’d predict the two sides come to a long-term agreement sometime soon. There is no way Barber goes into the season with a contract like that. With him being the full-time starter next season expect for him to have an even bigger year.
In other Dallas news, they also placed tenders on Defensive end Chris Canty, 1-yr $2.017 million and center Joe Berger 1-yr $927,000.. If Canty signs elsewhere the team will get a 1st round draft pick , if Berger walks they’ll get a 6th rounder.
