So an arrest warrant as been issued for St Louis Cardinals Scott Spiezio. The warrant contains six charges all coming from a car accident in late December 2007. The charges include driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more, hit and run, aggravated assault, assault and battery. Spiezio did not play in today’s exhibition game but Cardinals spokesman Brian Bartow said it’s not due to the warrant and that the team was not aware of it.
Here are the details of the crash. Irvine, California police responded to a single-car crash in the midnight hour on Dec 30th. At the scene a 2004 BMW was found, this vehicle was registered to Spiezio. The vehicle had crashed into a curb and then a fence. There were also reports that the driver was seen running from the crash.
That’s not the end thou! Afterwards police talked to neighbors of Spiezio, one who said he was assaulted by Spiezio a short while later and a very short distance from the crash site. The neighbor claimed that Spiezio arrived home looking injured and disheveled, he then vomited in his condo and then assaulted the neighbor causing significant injuries.
Don’t have much spin on this regarding playing time yet, as there’s no reports coming from the Cards themselves. And Spiezio hasn’t turned himself in so no word on any type of trial dates or anything.
Stories like this get me pretty upset thou. One would think professional athletes and celebrities know better, they have all the money in the world and can easily have someone just drive them home. And what about this story makes me even more upset is this past summer the Cardinals dealt with the loss of Josh Hancock to drunk driving, and now Spiezio gets in his own DUI hit and run, after the two were very close friends. I swear a lot of these guys are just complete morons, its sad just so sad.
