The Chicago Tribune reported today that the Detroit Lions could be shopping wide receiver Shaun McDonald. McDonald had a pretty solid season for the Lions last year catching 79 balls for 943 yards. Where would be a possible situation for McDonald. The number one spot at the moment is in San Francisco with the 49ers. Reason being, coach Mike Martz. Martz was in Detroit and the guy who drafted Shaun in the 2003 Draft. And we all know that San Fran lacks any play making threats, so it wouldn’t be a bad fit.
SO, some may ask why the Lions would consider trading someone who put up those kind of numbers last year. Well the reason is pretty simple, supply and demand. There are teams who need wide-outs and the Lions have a surplus. The Lions also have Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson and Mike Furrey. When you look at the Lions needs its all on the defensive side of the ball, so why not trade one of your big 4 wide receivers if it could net you some more draft picks to get that help, or get you a solid player or two with experience.
