According to the St. Petersburg Times, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos have had discussions about wide receiver Javon Walker. Denver has not been hiding the fact that they want to move Walker. He’s due a roster bonus of $5.4 million on the 4th of March and he himself said at the end of the of the season that he wanted to find a ‘better fit,’ elsewhere. So could the two things work something out? I’d say it would be a good fit, Denver wants him gone, and the Bucs well they need offensive help.
Tampa does have Joey Galloway,37, and Ike Hilliard, 32, as the starting wideouts. No spring chickens. Walker is only 29 but a big target, he’s 6′3 which could give Tampa a towering presence over the middle of the field from the slot. He’d also be a perfect option in the West coast style offense coach John Gruden likes to run. Walker only played in 8 games last season, catching 26 balls for 287 yards.
Here’s what I would do thou if i was Tampa, only give up a late round draft pick, a 5th or the 6th. If they really want Javon, sit the Broncos out. He only played half the season, he doesn’t want to be there, the team doesn’t want him there. So, what does that mean well at a $5.4 million roster bonus, he’ll most likely be cut. Denver’s asking price is sure to drop over the next week as the deadline gets closer. So if you can get him that cheap go for it, if not then screw it wait for them to cut Javon then go after him in free agency. Who knows, you might even get him cheaper.
