A vegetarian Prince

Milwaukee Brewers Prince Fielder has decided to change his diet and become a vegetarian. Prince is 6 foot and about 260 pounds so many have questioned is weight and whether he’ll be able to continue playing first base much longer. So you think good job, he’s taking his weight seriously and getting into better shape. WRONG!. According to Prince, this was not based on his weight and the need to lose or about getting healthier.

His diet change was about cruelty to animals. He made the decision a few weeks ago after his wife gave him a book, and that book completely changed his outlook on meat. This book detailed how certain animals are slaughtered, treated, and just plainly abused for food purposes. Supposedly, Prince who was known to love his burgers, steaks and salmon is now completely turned off to the idea of meat. “After reading that, (meat) just didn’t sound good to me anymore,” Fielder said. “It grossed me out a little bit. It’s not a diet thing or anything like that. I don’t miss it at all.”

So what does this mean for his baseball career? If he stays with this style, he should become a lot healthier and most likely lose some weight. So Brewers fans, maybe you will see him stay in the NL longer and manning the first base position for the Crew. One added benefit is Fielder has said that he has extra energy now. He’s been working harder in camp then ever before, trying to cut down on his errors at first base. He truly, wants to be come a better defender.

Thats all nice and good, but will the loss of weight from the diet effect his 50 homerun output? Only time will tell. Fielder added “My wife said that if I lose some power, she’s cooking me a big steak.”
