The teams are starting to lineup for the services of Tight End Alge Crumpler, who was recently released by the Atlanta Falcons. What teams are showing interest? Well we’ve got the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. I’d say no surprise that all of the Falcons divisional rivals are interested. They each see him twice a year and know the numbers he’ll put up if healthy. While teams are interested thou, no team may speak to Crumpler yet. None of the players made the official NFL waiver wire Friday, and because of President’s Day the league offices are closed, so Crumpler isn’t “free” yet.
Crumpler has already had off-season surgery to repair minor knee problems and should be ready for training camp.He also posted 4-year lows with just 42 catches and 444 yards. But take a look around the league, he still had better numbers then Buc’s TE Alex Smith. While any team that signs him will take on some serious risk, the reward potential is enormous. Especially for a playoff contending team.
All of those teams looking at Crumpler definitely do have a need for a TE. Who knows what this guy has left in him thou, he’s been part of the walking wounded the past few seasons. But yet is still a terror in the red zone. If I were the Colts, Saints or Bucs its something you have to look into. For a team like the Colts, it would open up the field even more for Reggie Wayne, as teams will have to respect the middle of the field. For the Saints the same would hold true, and the Bucs, well they just need a weapon cause that offense just plain sucks.
